Program Description:
Ideal for people with some degree of hearing loss, the Captioned Telephone (CapTel) works like any other telephone with one important addition: it displays every word the other party says throughout the conversation. CapTel phone users can listen to the caller, and can also read the written captions in the CapTel's bright display window. Available for - Anyone with some degree of hearing loss who finds it difficult to understand telephone conversations. - People using hearing aids or assistive listening devices - People who are deaf or hard of hearing and voice for themselves •Calls are made in a natural manner. •Users dial the telephone number directly for the person they are calling. •Users enjoy natural telephone conversations, and can check the captions for added clarity. •The CapTel phone can be used as a regular phone by turning off the captions feature. •The CapTel phone includes an amplified handset and tone control. •Captions can be read nearly simultaneously while listening to the other party's spoken words. Three ways to obtain CapTel: Option 1, Equipment Distribution Program: Wisconsin residents may be eligible to receive a free CapTel phone through the state's Telecommunications Equipment Purchase Program (TEPP). You may go to the TEPP website for more information at https://psc.wi.gov/Pages/Programs/TEPP.aspx NOTE: If you have used your TEPP voucher within the last three years, you may purchase a CapTel phone though the limited time offer program Option 2, Purchace a CapTel Phone: If you are not qualified to get a free CapTel, you can purchase at a specially-reduced price directly through WCI. CapTel phones are available to purchase directly for $75, thru WCI https://www.captel.com/states/wisconsin/ call 1-800-233-9130. Option 3, Third Party Certificate: Per recent FCC regulations, individuals with hearing loss may receive an Internet-based CapTel phone free of charge if they complete and submit a Third Party Certification of Eligibility. The Third-Party Certification must be signed by a hearing health professional who confirms that the person applying has a hearing loss and would benefit from IP-based Captioned Telephone Service in order to communicate effectively over the phone. For full details, access website: https://www.captel.com/captel/thirdparty/ . Download & print the Third Party Certification Form https://www.captel.com/support/thirdparty.pdf Have the form signed & dated by a hearing professional such as an audiologist or specialized doctor Send the completed certification form to: Fax: 608-238-3008 or Email: Register@captel.com or mail to 450 Science Drive, Madison, WI 53711
