Program Description:
Assists very low-income families with safe, decent, affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives. Administers housing programs for low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Offers home ownership workshops to learn the basics of the home ownership process. The City of Kenosha Housing Authority (KHA) provides a subsidy to the owner for the difference between the tenant's ability to pay and the contract rent. Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers are targeted to assist very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. The Vouchers a very popular program and the waiting list is currently closed, call for the next open application day. ***If you applied during the 2024 open enrollment, you may check your application status by going to https://www.assistancecheck.com/ or https://www.waitlistcheck.com/ You may also visit our office at 625 52nd St., Room 98, Kenosha, WI 53140 with a photo ID to obtain information regarding your Wait List status or email info@kenoshahud.com with a photo ID and request for status information. Please contact the Kenosha Housing Authority if you have any questions at (262) 653-4120. We will NOT provide Wait List status information via telephone. Additionally, we do NOT provide your waitlist position information. - TENANT BASED RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (HOME PROGRAM) City of Kenosha Vary the level of TBRA subsidy – the level of subsidy is based upon the income of the household, the particular unit the household selects, and the payment standard for Kenosha County. Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for services through the TBRA Program: ➢ Families/Individuals must be one of the following: • Elderly (Age 62+) • Elderly Veteran • Elderly Disabled Must be a resident of Kenosha County at the time of application ➢ Must meet the HUD income guidelines for Kenosha County at or below 50% of the median income limits for Kenosha County ➢ Must not already be receiving Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance. The types of units eligible for the TBRA are: ➢ You may choose a unit anywhere in the City of Kenosha ➢ A unit that is the appropriate size for the family ➢ A unit that is in a decent, safe, and sanitary condition ➢ A unit that rents for a reasonable amount **You must wait for the Waiting List to open up. You may request to be notified by the program’s Housing Specialist when the next application period is open. Call for complete details. **"Emergency Housing Vouchers The City of Kenosha has been awarded funding by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (Public Law No: 117-2) on July 1, 2021. The American Rescue Plan Act allowed The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to allocate additional vouchers to housing authorities. We are please and excited to announce that the Kenosha Housing Authority (KHA) has received funding for the following individuals/families who are (1) homeless, (2) at risk of homelessness, (3) fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or (4) recently homeless. If you need rental assistance and fall into one of the above categories, please contact the Kenosha Human Development Services (KHDS) office at (262) 764-8555 and ask for information about the Emergency Housing Vouchers. KHDS is working with our office in identifying referrals. SD, Subsidized Housing
