Program Description:
The court system can be a very confusing and intimidating place. Women and Children’s Horizons Legal Advocacy Program has an advocate that can assist a victim through the criminal justice process, restraining orders, and family courts such as divorces, legal separations and child custody issues. Advocates are not lawyers. Advocates are available for support, information regarding court processes, court accompaniment, and help filing important documents. For more information on WCH’s Legal Advocacy Program, please call the following appropriate number to speak with an advocate. - Criminal Cases 262-653-2782 (Located in the District Attorney’s office at the Court House) The Advocate is able to provide victims with information about criminal cases, accompany them to court or meetings with the District Attorneys, or meet with them individually to listen and offer support. - Family Court / Civil Cases The Advocate is able to provide victims with information and support through family court and civil cases. This includes divorces, legal separations and child custody issues. The advocate is available to attend court hearings or meet with the victim individually to listen and offer support. - Restraining Orders The Advocate is able to provide victims with assistance and information about restraining orders, including attending the restraining order hearing with the victim.
