Program Description:
The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF) is concerned with the physical, emotional, and social impact on people diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and their family. Services: - MS Helpline - Provide information, referrals, assistance in accessing services, and problem solving. Reassurance calls are available. - Homecare Assistance Grant - Direct support is provided through short-term non medical care for those who qualify. Homecare is currently based on financial need, short-term need, and available funding. Should resources within the patient’s community be unavailable, direct support will be provided on a temporary basis through the MSF Homecare Assistance Grant Program. Access website for application. - Cooling Program offers a variety of items, free of charge, that will help you stay cool in the heat. The program cycle beings on February 1 and continues through June 1. Available items include: Cooling vests Neck wraps Wristbands Hats - Assistive Technology - Information and referral is provided on equipment loan closets, funding agencies, and organizations providing services. Direct support is provided through the purchase of new medical equipment, assistive technology, and medical services to those who qualify. Access website for application. - Computer Program provides laptop or desktop computers for individuals with MS on limited or fixed incomes. Either a laptop computer, or a desktop computer with a monitor, keyboard and mouse, will be granted. Internet access and technical support will be the responsibility of the grant recipient - Brighter Tomorrow Grant - The goal of the grant is provide individuals with MS with goods or (valued at up to $1000.00 per recipient) to improve their quality of life by enhancing safety, self-sufficiency, comfort, or well-being. The Brighter Tomorrow Grant is only open from June 1st - September 1st. Applications submitted outside of this window will not be accepted. Recipients of the grant have received car repairs, ramps, wheelchairs, walkers, eyeglasses, computers, appliances, televisions, furniture, therapeutic equipment, hobby supplies, retreats, and various home modifications. Applicants are asked to provide basic personal and financial information and to write a brief essay of 100 words or less to describe how the grant would help them have A Brighter Tomorrow. They must not have any other means of fulfilling the need they express. Access website for application. - MS also provides a lending library, an Internet help line and forums. SD
