Program Description:
The Public Works Administration Division oversees several City service areas, including: Fleet Maintenance, Street Maintenance, Engineering, and Waste and Recycling Collections. Waste & Recycling maintains the City of Kenosha's clean and healthy environment through the collection of bulk, brush, compost, solid waste and recycling. Seniors and those with physical disabilities, that makes taking the garbage cans to the curb, can contact the Waste Division to arrange for some assistance. Consumers will need to complete an application that has a portion for their physician to complete, then the application will be returned to the Waste Department for approval.
Needles/Sharp Containers:
"Sharps" include medical needles, syringes, lancets (finger stick devices), and other sharp medical instruments. Wisconsin State Law makes it illegal to throw your used needles, syringes and lancets out with your household garbage or recyclable material. Unsafe disposal can result in serious diseases through accidental needle sticks to workers or even neighborhood children and the general public.
To dispose of needles/sharps, place them into a red "sharps" container. Take the container to a registered disposal site. . Pharmacies and medical clinics may accept the containers for proper disposal.
