Program Description:
Most business with SSA can be done online, but they know that many people still rely on phone or in-person help. That's why they want you to know you can still count on them by phone. And, if you have a critical situation they cannot help you with by phone or online, you may walk in for service. Spanish website www.socialsecurity.gov/espanol/ Provides information and assistance about the full range of programs administered including retirement, survivors, disability benefits, Medicare, and SSI. Issues Social Security numbers, and replacement cards. Helps workers assure that their earnings record is correct. Oversees the Extra Help program to help cover costs of Medicare Part D premiums. Most Social Security services do no require a visit to the office. For example, anyone wishing to apply for benefits, sign up for direct deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain proof of income letter, or inform Social Security of a change of address or telephone number may do so online at www.SSA.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213. The SSA no longer issues Social Security number printouts in the field offices. Individuals who need proof of their Social Security number and cannot find their card, will need to apply for a replacement card. - The field offices also no longer provide benefit verification letters, except in emergency situations. Benefit verifications are available online, and can be obtained anytime by registering for a my Social Security account located at: www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount, or requested through our national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213. - If you suspect someone is committing Social Security fraud, report it online at http://oig.ssa.gov/report or call the Social Security Fraud Hotline 1-800-269-0271. Social Security has zero tolerance for fraud and uses many proven tactics to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. - Social Security's website offers the same great service in Spanish on your tablet or laptop when you're on the go. Try it out at www.segurosocial.gov. There, you can learn all about our programs and online services and view more than 100 Spanish-language public information pamphlets, leaflets, and fact sheets. SSA also wants you to know they have many secure and convenient online services(https://www.ssa.gov/onlineservices) to: - Apply for benefits - Retirement: https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement - Disability: https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/disability - Medicare: https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare - Information and apply for Extra Help - Check the status of an application or appeal, - Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas), - Print a benefit verification letter, and Much more. **New Assistance option; - Reference librarians are able to help people create My Social Security accounts at the library. People can call 262-564-6130, the library's direct reference line. Anyone answering can help them get started, or set up an appointment with a specific librarian. An appointment is best if someone needs hands-on help or has a complicated situation, but people can also just walk in and ask for help. The public use computers now have a Social Security icon that takes them directly to socialsecurity.gov. **Library staff don't help with disability applications or appeals, but can help with printing benefit verifications, changing addresses and other tasks done through a My Social Security account. For security, all help must be in person. They won't set up an account over the phone. ** New online tool to start applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to request an appointment to apply for SSI benefits. Just need to provide basic information to submit the request, then SSA will schedule the phone interview which will take place over the phone and let the person know the appointment date within 14 business days. Priority Life circumstances can be indicated on the application. www.ssa.gov/benefits/ssi/start.html *NEW: Now offering two Social Security Express sites in Racine County. Visitors can access the official site of the Social Security Administration and apply for retirement, disability and Medicare.
